The Donovan Family – ‘Introduction’

Demetri and Lila have been together for several years now.   They met by chance while Demetri was still in college and Lila was working part-time as a waitress and they’ve been inseparable ever since.  A bit of an odd pairing, Demetri is determined to make a name for himself in the corporate world while Lila is content to hang out at home.  She doesn’t have a job or any aspirations, which doesn’t bother Demetri much, he’s got enough ambition for both of them.  He does wish she’d make an effort to help him schmooze his way to the top, though.  Everyone knows that a charming CEO has an even more charming woman backing him.

Lila just can’t buy into any of that corporate nonsense.  She doesn’t feel the need to impress anyone.

They dated and lived together for quite some time before finally tying the knot.  Lila wasn’t sure how she felt about no longer being a Hamilton.  She came from a slightly privileged family that lost all their old money in the dotcom boom.  Her parents were still running from the IRS.  Maybe it was a good thing Lila wasn’t associated with that name anymore.  Besides, Donovan-Hamilton just sounded silly.

Moving to Riverview had been a difficult decision, mainly because such a backwater place had very little commercialized industry.  Still, there seemed to be a worthwhile company starting up and Demetri was all ready to go for a fixer-upper.  Not to mention that few places were hiring and it was one of the places that chose him over other, more qualified candidates.

Moving seemed to have been an excellent choice, because Demetri had no problem fitting into his new work environment.  His boss was an older, married woman with an established family and name for herself in the community.  She offered him helpful advice and served as a sort of defacto mentor to him, for which Demetri was eternally grateful.  Lila mostly ignored all the corporate babble, content to spend her time on her novels.  She was determined to be a great author, or at least a well-paid one.  If she wanted a big family, she’d have to support it.

Most women would feel threatened about their husband having a powerful woman with him at all times, but not Lila.  She didn’t really see a reason to worry.  Demetri had a magnetic personality, sure, but he had never given her cause for concern.  He always knew where to draw the line.

And so, the days continued on.  Demetri started advancing through the corporate ladder quickly and Lila spent her hours writing novels and submitting manuscripts to publishers.  She’d been accepted to a drama publishing house and was working on her latest work, ‘Unforeseen Accusation’.  Demetri mostly spent his time at work, on the phone talking about work, working from home, going to late meetings, or running errands for his boss.

She’d even given him a stereo and several other things to fix, which seemed a bit odd.  Tinkering had always been a hobby of his, but he really didn’t think a stereo could break three times in a row.  Still, seeing her fancy house only made him push harder at work.  He was determined to have some semblance of status.

As Demetri climbed the ladder, he found himself developing tunnel vision.  He was so preoccupied trying to keep meetings going and everyone at work happy that he may have missed a very important sign at home.  Lila had been acting strangely, but Demetri just put it up with him being busy at work and not paying attention to what was going on at home.  The most he managed to see her was when they slept and when they woke up.  The rest of the day was just too packed full of things to do.

So, when Lila put on some extra weight, it went completely missed by Demetri.  Lila wasn’t so oblivious, however.

I can’t wait to see what happens with these two. Hopefully they will get it together, or not.

I’m trying to find a good balance for blogging. At the moment, I am directing them, but also letting them ‘do their thing’. His boss is creepy–she really does try to flirt with him and her relationship with him does affect his job performance!

  • I’m so glad you’re blogging this so I have a chance to play vicariously through you. ;) Demetri needs to start paying more attention to things around him. And I’m not sure I trust his boss. Maybe Lila needs to pay more attention too and keep an eye on that woman!

  • Yay! I’m really glad you’re attempting a story-ish kind of blog here. I’m really curious to see what can be done, or not done.

Wow, so these two really are disjointed, aren’t they? Does their actual relationship suffer if they don’t spend time together? Or is it in like Sims 2, where if they just have dinner together once a day, their relationship will stay maxed? lol! :)

I won’t say relationships are harder in TS3, because they’re not. It’s a hoop-jumping mini-game. However, you have to ‘work’ to keep sims in love. Sims no longer really have dinner together, because they take so long doing things, lol. If you keep a couple’s relationship bar maxed, they’ll have wishes/etc involving their spouse. Despite my story, Lila and Demetri get along really well and keep their relationship up by spinning wants to hug/kiss, etc. They’re an odd couple (I built Lila specifically to be a homebody author and Demetri to excel in business), but they work.

Since sims no longer have love/crush/etc flags, you have to sort of interpret when sims fall out of love.

  • Lila and Demetri look great! Can’t wait to see what happens with them. The first baby I had in TS3 was called Laurel. ;)

I’m really interested to see what you’ll do with TS3 and blogging, so I’ll be following along. I’m not sure yet what I’ll be doing so I’m glad a couple of you have jumped in ahead of me!

I really like experimenting with things and since I can’t enjoy the TS3 anymore as a game, I figured blogging would increase its longevity. Demetri and Lila are also a genetic experiment, thus the kind of extreme features Lila has… though she has the same traits I’ve given TS2 females, LOL!

  • Awesome Mao! I didn’t know you had a Sims 3 blog. But your story telling seems to be just as wonderful and exciting as ever with the new game. I look forward to reading more!

  • Well, this is just excellent. Another reason for me to internet stalk you.

Come now, Demetri. Every good business man needs pictures of his kids in his wallet…you know, to show off to co-workers and junk. Think of this as an opportunity.

TWINS. Even in this game, you get twins! Talk about strange.

How do you go about eradicating the regular sims? Is there a delete all townies cheat for the sims3 like there was the sims2?
