15: Steel/Taylor – ‘Grand Theft Autumn’

Emma Steel (Young Adult), Skip Taylor (Young Adult), Amy Steel (Baby)

Dominic Cosaro spent a lot of time over at Emma’s apartment. He was babysitting his first grandchild, Amy. Of course, ‘babysitting’ a tiny infant mostly entailed him playing computer games while she napped quietly in her nursery. Emma and Skip did all the heavy lifting, which was just as well. Dominic had never been terribly skilled with babies.

15: University – ‘Messages’

Julian Cosaro (Term 1), Gavin Klein (Term 1), Michelle Valdes (Term 1)

Julian Cosaro had been excited to head off to University–a whole new world of academia to uncover. He was majoring n Science along with Gavin Klein. The two were mild acquaintances from high school, though they didn’t travel in the same ‘social circles.’ Julian was surprised to see Michelle Valdes in attendance, as well.

“Are you saying that someone like me couldn’t get into university?” Michelle was brazen and forthright. She was only joking, but Julian was too nervous to notice. She was a transplant, having moved to Aperture with only two years left in high school. Her family was a bit… odd.

“W-What? No,” he began nervously, “that’s not what I meant at all–”

She waved him off and continued to her room, “calm down, boy wonder. I was kidding.”

14: University – ‘Casual Affair’

Jack Ryder (Year Four), Rhys Klein (Year Three), Emma Steel (Year Three), Bettina Ackerman (Year Three)

For their final two years of university, they all decided to go in on a house rental. It turned out to be a brilliant idea. The dorms were crowded and annoying, but with the privacy of their own home, things were much easier. Emma kind of wished that Rhys and Bettina would save the PDA for their bedroom, though.

13: University (Yr 1) – ‘Ignorance’

Jack Ryder (Year Two), Rhys Klein (Year One), Emma Steel (Year One), Bettina Ackerman (Year One)

Rhys Klein and Bettina Ackerman were quite happy to finally be at University. They were assigned to the same co-ed dorm, so they were able to spend plenty of time together. Their majors were pretty similar, too. Rhys was focusing on Music, while Bettina wanted to improve her artistic talents.

It was a pretty perfect situation.

12: Steel-Klein – ‘Careful’

Clark Klein (Vampire), Asha Steel (Vampire), Emma Steel (Teen), Julian Steel (Teen)

Emma Steel knew something wasn’t right. It was there–hanging in the air, tangible only to her. She was standing there, teetering on the fearsome precipice of change.

She wasn’t a kid. She knew that things changed; it was the natural order of everything to mutate and evolve beyond its initial state of being. Still, it rankled her. It wasn’t a good change. The feeling was an ominous one.

11: Steel-Klein – ‘Emergency’

Clark Klein (Vampire), Morrigan Hemlock (Vampire), Asha Steel (Vampire), Emma Steel (Teen), Julian Steel (Teen)

Paula Novak walked briskly through the sodden backyard of the Steel-Klein household, leaves sticking to the bottom of her boots. It was a typical autumn day in Aperture. A rainy morning had left a dense fog hanging long into the afternoon, giving everything an unseemly sheen of moisture. It was like walking through soup.

10: Steel-Klein – ‘Lights and Sounds’

Clark Klein (Vampire), Morrigan Hemlock (Vampire), Asha Steel (Adult), Emma Steel (Teen), Julian Steel (Child)

Clark Klein had Aperture City in the palm of his hand.  He’d completely overthrown the old crime family and had even gained some ground they’d been unable to seize.  Through cunning and determination, he’d made his way to the top.

That didn’t stop his wife, Asha, from giving him looks of disapproval as he took work calls in the living quarters of their mansion, however.  She’d be raised in the life, she understood the necessity of being constantly available, she just preferred if he did it away from her children.

9: Steel-Klein – ‘Shake the Disease’

Clark Klein (Vampire), Morrigan Hemlock (Vampire), Asha Steel (Adult), Emma Steel (Child), Julian Steel (Child)

Emma Steel was a lot of things.  She was graceful, skilled, and poised.  The only thing she lacked was zeal for academia.  She had no interest in school and made it known to everyone.  She didn’t care about her grades, something that she and Asha had argued over multiple times now.  Emma was an opinionated youth and she wasn’t about to let anyone tell her, not even her own mother, that she had to focus on something she hated.

She pled to Clark for help, but he stayed out of it.  She was certain he could get her out of school.  The fact that she knew that much was dangerous.  Asha scolded her anytime she tried to use Clark’s influence for her own merit.

8: Steel-Klein – ‘Darkside’

Clark Klein (Vampire), Morrigan Hemlock (Vampire), Asha Steel (Adult), Emma Steel (Child), Julian Steel (Toddler)

It had taken a great deal of time and patience, but Clark finally managed to get through to the ancient vampire.  Morrigan had never faced such a cunning mortal before.  He’d not only tricked her out of her gift, but he’d somehow convinced her that aiding him was in her best interest.

“Sell tickets.  It’s going to be quite the show.”

7: Klein/Steel – ‘Enjoy the Silence’

Clark Klein (Adult), Asha Steel (Young Adult), Emma Steel (Baby)

“This had better be brilliant, Patrick.  I’m not much of a morning person.”

Clark Klein had not been amused when Patrick McMaster called him in the early am and told him he was coming over.  By the time Clark got to the front door, Patrick was pulling up in some ridiculous ice cream truck.

“Oh, I think you’re going to like what I’ve got chilling in the back.  We’ll have to be quick, though.  It’s waking up.”
