7: Klein/Steel – ‘Enjoy the Silence’

Clark Klein (Adult), Asha Steel (Young Adult), Emma Steel (Baby)

“This had better be brilliant, Patrick.  I’m not much of a morning person.”

Clark Klein had not been amused when Patrick McMaster called him in the early am and told him he was coming over.  By the time Clark got to the front door, Patrick was pulling up in some ridiculous ice cream truck.

“Oh, I think you’re going to like what I’ve got chilling in the back.  We’ll have to be quick, though.  It’s waking up.”

It took some effort, but the two men managed to get the ‘package’ into Clark’s secret underground area.  Thankfully, he’d taken Patrick’s notes from weeks earlier and constructed a cage worthy of the creature inside.

“Are you sure it’s safe to keep it under your house like this?”

“It’ll be fine, Patrick.  Fantastic job.  You’ll have the funds in your account by noon.”

“I’d really like to–”

“No, really, I must insist that you leave.  What happens next won’t be pleasant.”

Afterwards, Clark headed upstairs to check in on Asha.  He could hear her pacing from outside.  So, she hadn’t told him yet.

“Asha,” Clark began, his words a gentle warning.  “I thought we went over this.”

“Don’t lecture me.”  She wasn’t hostile so much as shamed.  “He’s coming over to see Emma and I’m going to tell him then.”

“Good.  See that you do.  I’ve got to go… some business has come up.”

Asha didn’t get a chance to respond.  Clark was gone.

“Holy crap, Asha,” Dominic said, barely through the front door.  “Why is it every time I see you lately, you’re knocked up?  Is that why you’ve been avoiding me?  I don’t see why… I mean, I get that you’re with Clark now but–”

“It’s yours, Dominic,” she interrupted, her words quick and anxious.  “The night that I left…”

“Are you kidding me?  That’s impossible!  That means you’re–”

“Pretty far along, yeah.  I just couldn’t really find the right moment and it always takes forever for me to show, so I thought I had plenty of time… I’m sorry.”

“Are you sure it’s mine?”

Asha’s eyes narrowed.  “Why do you always ask me that?”

“This is so messed up, Asha.”  He took her hand.  It was an instinct to reach for her when she looked so completely defeated.

She didn’t pull away.  Instead, she gave him a sad smile.  “I know.  I’m sorry.”

“I feel like I should be doing something.  That you shouldn’t be here, with Clark…”

Asha released herself from his grip.  “I’m not an idiot, Dominic.  We were never going to be anything more than what we already were.  I knew that.  I didn’t expect anything greater from you.”

“I wish I could have offered you something more…”

“It’s for the best.  We’re both better off this way…”

Asha had never thought herself the mothering type.  She couldn’t deny the maternal instinct that welled up in her when she looked at Emma, though.  She was like a fierce mother bear protecting her cub.  As much as she loved watching Emma grow, she couldn’t help but be saddened by every birthday that passed.

If only it could have been different.  Asha shook that thought off anytime it came into her head.  It never would have been different.  Dominic wasn’t the type to commit.  Even now, faced with children, he still balked at it.

It really was better this way.

Little Julian came into the world not long after his sister’s first birthday.  If Dominic didn’t have any other children, Julian would be his namesake.  Both children carried their mother’s maiden name, but they could always choose to take on their father’s name when they were older.

It seemed so strange, how unruffled by the whole situation Clark was.  He didn’t seem to care that he was keeping another man’s children under his roof.  He didn’t even care that Asha had come to him already pregnant.  It just didn’t make sense.  Then again, a lot of things about Clark didn’t make sense.

“You worry to much about things that are irrelevant,” he told her.  “What do I care?  You were technically with him when it all happened.  Were you to pop up pregnant now with his kid, I might have a problem.”

“So!  You do have some sense of morality.”

He pulled her closer.  “Only a little.  Mostly I just want you to stop questioning my acceptance of your children.”

“Fine, but be honest with me.  Why don’t you care?  You treat them so well, it’s–”

“I already have children, Asha.  I don’t want you for that purpose.”

“Gee, you know just what to say to a girl.”

“I’d rather not say anything…”

“Well, look at you.  Are you happy with yourself now?  Will you run rampant on the streets and call out how powerful you are to all the silly, weak mortals?”

Clark gave a bitter laugh.  “I prefer a more subtle approach, as you’ve seen.”

The vampire hissed.  “You will not get away with this!  No one steals a vampire’s might!”

“And yet I have.  I would say that your logic is terribly flawed.”

“I will not let you get away with this!”  She snarled, her fingers jabbing at him from between the bars.  It didn’t quite have the effect she was going for.  “I will get out of this cage and I will tear you apart!”

“Is that so?  I think not.  This was specially designed with you in mind, my dear.  You’re not going anywhere.”

“Why keep me?!  You have what you want!  Release me!”

“I have better things in mind for you.  I just need more time.”

“NO!  YOU WILL RELEASE ME!”

Clark shook his head.  “That won’t work on me, I’m afraid.  I’m keen to all your tricks… and now they’re mine to use.  You’ll see soon enough.  Until then, feel free to enjoy my hospitality a little while longer.”

She screamed and hissed at him as he turned and left.  She climbed and shook the bars like a savage monkey in a cage, but it was moot.  She wasn’t going anywhere.

“Clark, you’re back?  I didn’t hear you come in.”  Asha said, coming up from behind.  She hadn’t seen him in a month.  He’d been out on ‘business’ again.

“Of course you didn’t,” he said, his voice amused.  He moved so quickly that Asha had no time to react.  He held her tight against him, grinning like a Cheshire cat.  “I didn’t want you to.”

“Clark!  Are those–”

“They might be.  Do they frighten you?”

“Well, I– wait, and your glasses, where are…”

“Vampires don’t have vision problems, Asha.”  His grin grew wider, the fangs all but poking out.  “I hope you won’t miss your family too desperately once they’re gone.”

—————————

One of these days, I will have my first vampire NOT be the criminal overlord of the hood.  Maybe.  Okay, probably not.  It’s my thing, okay?  It’s a thing that I do.  Anyway, Clark is a vampire.  He makes a really good vampire, actually… I was kind of surprised.  I made his sim so very long ago that I forgot what he looked like beneath the glasses.  He’s also an Adult that looks like a YA.  How?  I do not know.

Yeah, the Steel family is screwed once Clark gets that crazy vampire in his basement to behave.

Also, yes Asha left Dominic’s house last round pregnant.  Which caused all kinds of crazy time mix-ups as far as aging goes.  Freaking Emma will be a child the next time we see her.  I have to say, I couldn’t resist and looked at both kids in CAS.  Um, they are gorgeous.  SO GLAD Asha finally got knocked up… and twice!  I doubt Dominic will make that mistake again.

I spent HOURS decorating this house when I moved them in, what, a month ago?  I love it.  The upstairs still needs some work, but the open area downstairs is magnificent.  Clark has a ‘secret’ underground lair, as all my criminal overlords do.  :P

  • Oh man! This rocks! I’m so geeked you are doing the vamps again, it was so fun and twisted in Boreal! I’m looking forward to seeing what Clark has up his sleeve, and I hope asha really is okay with it. Part of me thought this might be more than she bargained for! And pregnant asha! I thought that was it, but I didn’t expect it to be Dominics baby, again! So is she all cool as a pickle over this vampire Clark she’s living with? Cause I’d be rushing out the door!!

I am glad you are exited about the vampires! I am always worried when I add them to my game. I wouldn’t say Asha is thrilled about it… but what can she say?

  • ElectronicSim

Perfect entry for a new household! ;)

  • Ha! I was wondering if you’d ever start making use of the TS3 vampires! They always seemed like such a big part of your gameplay and stories in TS2.

I can’t believe Asha got pregnant to Dominic again! That is crazy business, that is! Does Asha trust Clark now? Because I still don’t, especially now that he’s a vampire!

It’s so funny… vampires aren’t even my favorite, werewolves are! This change definitely means big things for the criminal underbelly of Aperture.

It’s hard to say whether or not Clark can be trusted quite yet…

  • LMAO about Asha being pregnant again. Wow! Vampires are a nice twist! I haven’t played with them at all yet so this is pretty exciting!

I hope you enjoy them joining the hood story. I like some paranormal stuff… but not a lot. Asha getting pregnant wasn’t planned! She autowoohooed before they broke up. Glad it happened though.; )
