6: Cosaro – ‘Nobody Loves You’

Dominic Cosaro (Young Adult), Asha Steel (Young Adult)

A short time after Asha told Dominic the truth about her family, she left.  They were still technically together, but she left on a trip to France in an effort to divert some of her family’s attentions away from Dominic.  He still didn’t quite grasp the gravity of what Asha had told him.

While she was away, Dominic spent a lot of his time alone at home.  He wasn’t a heavy thinker and he really didn’t enjoy having so many random thoughts moving through his brain at once.  He kind of just wanted to forget it all and return to his life.

When he did go out, he went out alone and avoided people.  He would purposely go to the dead bars.  He didn’t hang out with his teammates much anymore.  It was just easier to be alone.

Sometimes he saw Camilla, but not often.  Dominic wasn’t stupid.  He knew Alex hated him and so he tried not to cause any problems between them by hanging around too much.  There was also the weird attraction between them.  He loved Asha, but there had always been something that had drawn him to Camilla.  He tried to ignore the fact that she was technically Kelly’s step-daughter now.

Dominic was shocked when he came home from a conference to see Asha standing there.  She hadn’t phoned beforehand.  He actually hadn’t spoken to her in about two months.

“Asha, you’re back…”  His eyes adjusted to her and realized something was incredibly off.  She was pregnant.

“Dominic,” she began, stopping him before he could speak.  “I wanted to tell you.  I tried several times to do it over the phone… but I just couldn’t.”

“Y-You’re pregnant, Asha!”

“I know, I’m sorry.  When I found out, I was so confused… I just needed to leave and clear my head.  I needed to figure out what to do.”

“You could have told me!”  Dominic shot back.  He didn’t exactly welcome the prospect of being a father, but he was more angry about all the lies and hiding.  “I can’t believe you’ve hid this for half a year!”

“I… I didn’t tell you at first because I thought I was going to have it… taken care of.  When I got there, I chickened out.  I couldn’t do it.”

“Holy hell, Asha…”

“I’m sorry, Dominic.  I don’t know what else to say.”

“This is so ridiculous!  This had better not be some kind of trap to get me to marry you or something messed up like that!”

At this, Asha became angry.  “Are you kidding me?  I wouldn’t have to trick someone into marrying me, you asshole!”

She nearly spilled the beans right there–that the most powerful man in the entire city wanted her–but she kept her tongue.  She didn’t want to say it out of anger.  She didn’t want Dominic to know she had been uncertain about the baby’s father.

Dominic’s shoulders slumped and the anger drained out of him.  “I’m sorry, Asha.  That was stupid.  I know you wouldn’t do that.  I just… I’m not sure what to think.  You’ve had months to process this.  I’ve only known for ten minutes!”

“I feel terrible.  I wish I could take it all back.  I should have told you when I found out.”

Dominic pulled her into a hug.  “Why can’t anything with you ever be simple?”

She smiled at him and rested her head on his shoulder.  If only he knew…

Things seemed to be okay, despite Asha’s betrayal.  She didn’t tell him everything, she couldn’t.  She had come back with the intention of laying it all out, but seeing him made it difficult.  She loved him.  She didn’t want to lose him and she knew that if she told him, she would.

While Dominic was at work, Asha called Clark.

‘I was wondering when you’d call.  You’re back.  Did you enjoy the house?’

“We need to meet up, Clark.  We need to talk.”

‘Ominous.  I’m meeting with someone right now.  Meet me outside of the ATLAS plaza in an hour.’

“Interesting development, Asha,” Clark said by way of greeting.  He looked her over.  “Not from France, I hope?  They’re very amorous people.”

“No!  I knew before I left… I just didn’t want to tell Dominic.”

“Are you sure it’s his?”

She glared at him.  “Yes, you evil bastard!”

“We can’t all live in an ivory tower, Asha.  How did he react?”

“He’s coping, I guess.”

“Child or not, Asha, we have an agreement.  Consider it a souvenir of your time together.”

Asha frowned.  “I don’t think I’m in danger anymore.  Can’t we just collaborate?”

At this, Clark laughed.  “Don’t pretend to be naive, Asha… I know better.  If you want proof, you’ll get it soon enough.  Consider it me giving you a hard lesson.  I’ll be recalling all my security once that baby is born.”

Asha and Dominic were safe for the duration of her pregnancy.  Asha eventually gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Emma.  While she had questioned the baby’s father in the beginning, when she was born, it was obvious.  She had jet black hair and bright, blue eyes.  Asha was relieved, to say the least.  That was a mess she still wasn’t ready to come clean about.

“I don’t even know what you’re supposed to do with a baby,” Dominic lamented, looking at Emma.  “I never had siblings.”

“You’ll be fine, Dominic.  Just don’t be so fidgety.”

Things seemed to be fine for the first few months, but after that, it was obvious that Clark had kept his word.  Asha awoke to the smell of smoke.  She rushed downstairs while Dominic was still waking up.  Asha feared few things having grown up the way that she did.  If there was a fire, she wanted to see the cause.

Smoke filled her lungs as she descended the stairs.  The fire had started on the patio and was beginning to engulf the doors.  She peered through the smoke and glass to see the tell-tale signs of an arson outside on the ground.  She sighed.  They’d thrown it over the fence.

That bastard had been right.  She should have listened.

The fire was put out by the responding firemen and a report was taken.  No one was hurt, but there was significant property damage.

Dominic was beginning to realize that where Asha went, trouble followed.  She was complicated and everything that surrounded her became wrapped up in her complications.  It was a difficult realization.  Nothing was ever going to be simple with her.

He had every intention of talking to her, but she pounced on him before he could even try.  There was something strange about it–something final.  It was unsettling.

“I have to tell you something,” Asha said, not even bothering to pull on her clothes.  “I have to tell you a lotof things.  But I want you to know, that it isn’t easy for me.  None of this is.  It’s awful.  I love you, Dominic… nothing changes that, nothing will.”

“Asha, you have been acting weird since the fire.  What’s going on?”

“This whole mess is because of me.  My family… they wanted to pull me back in.  They had a job for me.  They promised to let me go if I did it.  I… I had to sleep with someone and get information from him… it’s what I did for them.  I’ve done it since I was a teenager.”

“What the hell, Asha?!”  Dominic snapped.  “Are you trying to tell me you’re some kind of information prostitute?!”

Was, Dominic… was!  I only did it to protect you.  They threatened you and I… I didn’t think I had a choice.  I believed them.  I was a fool.  They lied to me, so I took the information back and… now there’s a war.  If it goes well, the Steel family will be gone from Aperture forever.”

Dominic could barely grasp what Asha was telling him.  It was like listening to some sort of movie script.

“I thought you were a good person, Asha…”

“I am!”  She cried, her emotions getting the better of her.  “I felt… so horrible.  It’s why I got weird.  I could barely face you and then when I found out I was pregnant… I was so scared.  I ran.  He put me up in France.  I’ve been in contact with him the entire time.  He’s the reason we weren’t attacked until now…”

“You’re screwing some guy behind my back and you want me to believe it was to keep me safe?  Damn it, Asha!  That’s the worst excuse I’ve ever heard!”

“But it’s the truth.  I thought that everything would be okay and I was wrong.  That fire wasn’t just some random arsonist, it was a message from my family…”

“I should have just left in the beginning, but I couldn’t!  I love you.  I don’t want to be with anyone else, but I don’t have a choice.  Next time, it won’t just be a fire.  I have to get rid of them for good… and the only way to do it is by doing what I was raised to do…” She was crying.  “I’m going to leave and take Emma with me, Dominic.  Once I’m gone, you’ll be safe.”

“This is so messed up, I don’t even know what to think.  I’m so angry that I can’t think.  How could you do this?  What made you think I wanted any part of this?”

Asha began pulling on her clothes.  “I know, Dominic.  I’m so sorry.  I’ll be sorry for the rest of my life.  Nothing will make this better, but at least I’ll know you’re safe.”

“Is she even really mine?”

“Yes.  If you need a test to prove it, fine, but she is.”

Dominic didn’t reply.  He didn’t even look at her as she moved to leave the room.

Asha tried not to cry as she left, but she couldn’t stop.  There was a car waiting for her outside.  That bastard.  He always knew, he knew everything.  It was irritating.  There was even a car seat.

She watched as the house disappeared behind the car as it drove down the road.

“Punctual, as usual,” Clark remarked.  “Come inside.  I’m just packing up.”

“Packing up?” Asha managed to ask between sobs.

“Oh, yes.  After my divorce, I commissioned a house in the hills by the falls.  It’s finally done.  We’ll be living there.”  He didn’t wait for her to respond, instead he ushered her inside.  “Come on.  Standing out on the front step and sobbing isn’t really becoming of your position, Asha.”

Dominic was eventually lured out of his house by Camilla.  She tried not to take sides, but truthfully, she was closer with Dominic.  He barely had a chance to greet her before she lunged at him, wrapping him up in a big hug.  He pried her off with some effort.

“Camilla, seriously.  I’m okay.”

“So you keep saying, but here you are.  Look at you.  What a mess.  I didn’t know about all of it, I just knew about her family.  I feel so bad.  I wish I could have told you more.”

“I really don’t want to talk about it…”

“So we won’t.  Instead, we’ll get you so drunk you can’t talk!”

“I don’t think Alex would approve.”

“Ha!  When does he ever approve of anything I do?  Come on, you stupid jock.  I’ll make sure no criminally connected vixens snatch you up.”

Dominic feigned a laugh as she drug him to the bar.

————————-

This was super difficult.  Both because I didn’t want them to break up and because it was just epically hard to chronicle.  I try really hard not to stage things and let the game express what it needs.  Sometimes, though, the game pushes something and I miss it or it needs to be ‘fleshed out’, which requires minor staging.  This was all gameplay driven, BUT because I messed up and Asha’s pregnancy progressed while I played other houses, I was required to play multiple houses and stage various pictures to get this all to make sense.  Even now, it’s a jumble, but at least you get the gist of it.

Asha is playable and she has Emma, so she will be added to the rotation under ‘the Steel family.’  By the time this war is over, she’ll be the last one left!  As for the fire, it really happened.  It happened almost immediately after Asha brought Emma home.  It was nuts!  I took it as a sign, because even though I really wanted to keep them together, it just didn’t make sense.  Asha would never endanger Dominic and Emma just so she could be with him.  She wasn’t selfish like that.

Also, Dominic would NOT be cool with all that crazy lying and everything.  He wasn’t even really happy about the baby thing.  He didn’t even have any wishes for poor Emma!  We’ll see if that changes with time.  It is his, by the way.  I looked at her in CAS and she has Dominic’s eyes and hair, but she’s a copy of Asha’s face.

I let Asha and Dominic have one last autonomous romp before I broke them up.  I’m wondering if maybe Asha left with yet ANOTHER present, because she was throwing up at the new house… heh.  TRY TO AVOID FATHERHOOD ALL YOU WANT, DOMINIC!  I will get your genetics to continue one way or another!

When I went back to Dominic’s house after moving Asha, he was out with Camilla.  He did that on his own.  Sigh.  Well, at least she will keep him from being too sad… :P

OMG. This has been the most dramatic update ever! I can’t believe it. Poor Asha and Dominic. The way you wrote it makes sense but it’s still sad. :(
I guess it’s all aboard the Dominic/Camilla ship now!

    • Mao

I was thinking of you when I wrote this, Josh! I had to make sure it all made sense because I knew you were paying attention, LOL! I’m sad about it, too… but at least babies were created. :D

I dunno, that ship might be on dangerous waters. Alex has no intention of letting Camilla run off with Dominic. Those Klein men can be intense.

  • I can’t believe I didn’t guess Asha was pregnant, given how much Sims love knocking themselves up! It makes so much sense now!

I feel so awful for Asha though. She’s sort of…beholden to Clark now and I don’t know that he’s going to ease up now that she’s left Dominic.

Camilla and Dominic getting drunk together could be trouble. I know she’s only rolling romantic wants for Alex at the moment but who knows what could happen when she’s under the influence?

    • Mao

Haha, really? My ploy worked! Kind of. ;) Yeah, I was surprised when Asha got pregnant from ONE risky woohoo session.

We’ll get to see more of Clark soon enough. I may have some ‘plans’ for him…

Nothing happened, but I was SO worried when I saw them out together on their own. No outward romance yet, though. I feel like it’s only a matter of time before this situation gets really messy!

Awww, I am so sad that Asha and Dom broke up, but the reasoning makes since. I am glad that Emma really is his, though. Hopefully, he will come around and fight to be a father to her.

    • Mao

I know, I was so sad, too! I was hoping I could avoid it, but alas… :( Emma isn’t the only surprise, lol. I am almost 100% certain she left with another surprise.

  • Ugh!! So sad they broke up! And disappointed that Dominic never stepped up to the plate to be awesome. Asha deserves an awesome guy as does Emma. Can’t believe that she got pregnant!! And Camilla, ugh what a bad choice. I am loving this storyline!!!
