14: Ryder – ‘Scream & Shout’

Jessica Ryder (Young Adult), Rebecca Jefferson (Young Adult)

Rebecca does most of the cooking since moving in. Jessica is more than capable of cooking, but she’s often just too busy to bother. Besides, Rebecca rather enjoys it. She claims it makes her feel ‘domestic.’

Rebecca’s willingness to take over the household chores was more than okay with Jessica, who was often busy with her job. She loved being a firefighter. Growing up listening to all of her dad’s stories, it was certainly strange to be living her own version of them now as an adult.

The fire station was practically her second home.

Rebecca’s job was notably more ‘low-key.’ She was a professional blogger. Jessica didn’t completely understand what that meant, only that Rebecca spent an inordinate amount of time with her nose glued to her smart phone.

Her job allowed her to stay home, which she certainly didn’t object to. She took care of most of the household chores and would go to the park if she needed a change of scenery. Unfortunately, this autumn weather was horrible. It did nothing but rain!

Jessica, meanwhile, spent most of her time knee-deep in flames. Most of her calls were small house fires, but there was always the chance of something bigger happening. From Khalid’s stories, even meteor showers were a possible threat! Jessica wasn’t sure about all of that, but she was certainly prepared.

Coming home and telling Rebecca about her day’s adventures was perhaps her favorite part. She just seemed so completely in awe. It was certainly a major plus on the attraction scale.

Jessica and Rebecca had fallen into a rhythm since moving in together, but that didn’t mean they weren’t amorous. There was never a second where they acted more like roommates than lovers. They seemed to balance one another out perfectly, despite their differences. It was certainly a welcome change from the tumultuous relationship Jessica had with Natalia.

Rebecca often hung out with Jack, Jessica’s brother. They were both ‘unemployed bums’, as Jack put it. Rebecca had given up trying to convince him that she had a legitimate job. He wasn’t buying it. Blogging wasn’t a career, but neither was sitting around painting, either.

She was doing her best to convince him to come clean about Natalia. Jack was hesitant, though he knew he couldn’t avoid the issue forever.

Eventually, he broke down. Lying to Jessica just wasn’t something he could do anymore. She was bound to find out eventually and he seriously didn’t want it coming from anyone but him. Her reaction was everything he expected.

“I can’t believe you!”

“Look, sis, I know this is weird–”

Weird, Jack? I think we bypassed weird and went straight to completely messed up! What are you even thinking?”

“I care about her.”

Jessica sighed and gave him a look. “I’m not mad, not for the reasons you probably think. Maybe I should be, but I’m not. I love Rebecca and I’m happier than I’ve ever been. I’m mad for you, Jack. Because this isn’t going to end well.”

“You don’t know that, Jess. It’s not the same as it was with you two.”

“You’re being stupid,” she countered, brushing aside the small jab. “Natalia isn’t going to change and you’re not going to be the one to change her. When she gets bored, she’ll move on. She’s different than us, Jack.”

“I think I can handle myself.”

“Fine. Do what you want. But I warned you.”

Rebecca caught Jack before he could leave and tried to reassure him. Jessica would come around, eventually. It was just a sore spot. Her own brother was dating her ex-girlfriend. It wasn’t exactly something there was any precedent for. She just needed time.

Jessica wasn’t the type to hold a grudge. She was probably the most compassionate and loving person that Rebecca had ever met. There wasn’t anyone else she’d rather spend her life with, that much she was certain about. There was no worry about Natalia–whatever had happened between them was more than over.

Jessica and Rebecca didn’t spend all their time at home. They went out plenty, despite the looks. Some people were fine and didn’t seem to even notice that they were two women sharing a loving embrace. Others weren’t so subtle about their distaste for the situation.

It didn’t bother them any. They were off in their own little world.

Jessica was shocked when Catherine showed up at her door pregnant. A pang of jealousy rose up within her–she’d always wanted a family. Poor Catherine had been the same, but this certainly wasn’t the way she’d meant to go about it.

“I am such an idiot.”

“It’s okay, Cat. It’ll be fine. You’ve got me and Juliet. Even Rebecca. You can even move here if you need to. We can be three chicks and a baby.”

Catherine laughed. “No, that’s okay. I think I’ll stick with Juliet for as long as I can suffer through her and Sam.”

“Whatever you need, just let us know, okay? You’re not alone.”

“Thanks, I appreciate it,” Catherine said as Jessica hugged her. “I really do. But um, how about a little less comfort and a little more food? This pregnant lady is starving.”

Jessica shook her head as she pulled back and laughed. “Sure thing, Cat. We’ve got plenty of stuff in the fridge.”

I really like Jessica and Rebecca. They have such an awesome relationship. :D

Rebecca really is a professional blogger, lol! If only, right? Sitting around in your pajamas and blogging for cash! Doesn’t sound like that bad of a deal. Her LTW involves blogging–I can’t remember the specifics at the moment.

I really want these two to adopt. I’m trying to wait until they spin up relevant wishes. Sigh. I wish TS3 sims were more family and romance oriented! Even as a family sim, Jessica rarely seems to spin up those sorts of wishes. Very sad! I’ve never done adoption in this game, so I’m curious about it.

So now Jessica knows about Jack. It’s been long enough that she doesn’t feel completely betrayed. Besides, with the way Jessica is, she’d be more worried about Jack. It’d be a different story if she didn’t have Rebecca, though.

  • I’m so glad Jessica is happy and so sweet to and supportive of Cat.

I’m with her on the whole Natalia/Jack thing. I’ve got a feeling it won’t end well.

Jessica is so nice it hurts sometimes! I’m so glad she has Rebecca.

At least if it doesn’t work out, Jack won’t be as destroyed as Jessica was.

  • Man, professional blogging does sound like fun…though I’m one of those ridiculous people that ends up hating hobbies when there are deadlines imposed on them, etc.. As soon as it resembles a job, I lose my love for it. :(

I love Jessica and Rebecca together–Rebecca really does seem to complement Jessica’s lifestyle and goals. I’m relieved that Jack told Jessica about Natalia–Jack and Jessica were so close and I hated that he was keeping such a big secret from her. It’s so sweet that she’s more concerned about Natalia hurting Jack than about how the existence of their relationship hurts her.

    • Mao

Haha, I feel the same, actually. I love my hobbies but I’m not sure how I’d feel about them becoming a chore. I’m very odd like that; I don’t think I could ever pursue even my most loved hobbies as careers!

I’m so glad Jessica found Rebecca! I was really worried for awhile. It’s definitely helped her get over Natalia and soften the blow of this recent revelation. As for Jack, I think he can take care of himself… hopefully.

  • “If only” was exactly what I was thinking about Rebecca’s job! Geez – yes please!

I really like Jessica and Rebecca as a couple. Things just seem really happy and easy between them, which no one deserves more than Jessica.

Good thing Jessica warned Jack about Natalia. If anything happens, she doesn’t have to regret not telling him. It might be a bit of a “hate to say I told you so” sort of situation. I’m not as worried about Jack as I would be for Jessica though. I don’t know why. He doesn’t seem as fragile, somehow.

    • Mao

LOL! I know, right? We’d be in heaven.

You’re right. Jack isn’t as fragile. He’s a pretty resilient guy and I think it helps that he doesn’t seem to take anything seriously. I’m hoping he eventually gets some perspective and true maturity, though.

  • Jessica is probably very right that it won’t end well, I agree that Natalia is strange, and not like the rest of them. She’s the oddest one in your neighborhood. I hope that Jack can handle whatever does happen with Natalia, I really like him, and don’t want to see him hurt. And poor Cat, pregnant, having a family on her own. I hope things work out well for her. Rebecca is adorable, and professional blogging, lucky girl! I know some of those Mom bloggers make a ton of money, which I can never fully comprehend.

    • Mao

Haha, Natalia certainly does her own thing. I’m definitely glad she’s a bit different! Things would get a bit dull if everyone had awesome, functional relationships and wanted families. :D

I am so worried about Catherine!

YES! They really do. And it’s kind of shocking, to be honest. Blogging has seemed to take a backseat to the whole ‘vlogging’ craze now, though.

  • Josh

I can’t even breathe at Catherine being pregnant. Jessica and her girlfriend are cute, but WHAT at that bombshell! Jack needs to get his life together. Does Uni offer any benefits to Sims with artsy LTWs, like painting and writing etc?

    • Mao

Haha, I know! Poor Cat. Life is definitely not going how she planned it at all.

You know, I don’t think so, not unless they do the one social job career (involves being an art dealer.) Uni only seems to help actual careers. It gives plenty of time to skill, though!
